5 American Cartoons That Anime Fans Love

Anime is a very creative artform with many different traits. From magical girls to giant fighting robots to slice of life to dark and disturbing, these are all the genres we love.

Now what if one day you didn't have access to your favorite anime shows? (Yeah right, internet, duh.)

Or if you needed something different in between anime binge watching?

Or something you and your non anime friends can enjoy together? (Gateway shows, oh yes.)

Well, here are a few recent non-anime shows that could possibly be your next obsession if they aren't already.

1. Steven Universe

Magical powers, defending the universe, awkward happenings? Sounds like an anime to me!

And not only that, it's about a boy with magical powers. MAGICAL. BOY.

Plus there are anime Easter eggs dropped in there too if you keep an eye out.

With the help of the Crystal Gems, you follow Steven on many many magical adventures. Beware. There are FEELS.

2. Bravest Warriors

A band of heroes hired for odd jobs around the galaxy with a talking adorable mascot? Yup. Anime.

This online show is so creative with its insane adventures, it's hard to get bored.

Awesome futuristic technology, weird and wacky aliens, and whole episodes dedicated to cute fan service deem this series a slot in your anime line up.

Watch the first episode here!

3. Bee and PuppyCat

This adorable series is for the awkward magical girl inside all of us.

Our heroine loves food, has a crush on a boy, and has a familiar (PuppyCat) that helps her on her magical journey. Sailor Moon is like her cousin or something.

Although, this series has more of a science fiction twist with interdenominational travel, but WHO CARES. It's cute.

Watch the first two pilot episodes, they're super important!

FUN FACT: The English Vocaloid Oliver is the voice of PuppyCat!

4. Adventure Time

This one is a bit obvious as its popularity has increased over the years, but this series really isn't for kids as the commercials portray. This show is super fun on the outside but actually really deep and slightly messed up on the inside.

This show takes place in a post apocalyptic world and taking on deep topics (like any great anime) like of the meaning of life, our dark inner thoughts, finding ourselves, accepting others, etc. all in a very ominous fashion.

So for those who love the dark loss-of-innocence style of storytelling, this is for you! Plus, there are anime Easter eggs in this series as well.

Because it's cool like that.

5. Over The Garden Wall

This. Series. You will probably watch it all in one sitting. This has been one of the most well written shows in the last year. Without spoiling too much, this show is not what you think.

Adventures? Yes. Saving the day? Yes. Weird and slightly creepy stories? Yes. But how it all comes together into something deeper is the catch.

Like Adventure Time, this show will kick you right in the deep dark feels.

Btw, the kid in this show is the CUTEST. He even SINGS.
